The Love of Ignorance
The Love of Ignorance
BY Buddhadasa Bhikkhu
A man and a monkey were bosom companions,
the man loving the monkey mightily,
the monkey loving the man full measure.
Both loved each other beyond beholding.
One day the man was sleeping comfortably
when a fly crawled up the base of his ear.
The monkey thought it would disturb his friend:
'I must fight this wicked thing to the death.'
So he lifted a block of wood with both his hands and
slammed it down with all his strength. While the fly fled,
the beloved friend was wracked with spasms.
Ponder this: 'The Love of Ignorance.'
